Start The New Year Off Right

Okay, so we might be a week into the new year but that doesn’t mean we can’t start the new year off right. This last week was a trial run. It doesn’t count. Especially after everything that’s happened. I’ve decided the actual 2021 starts on the 11th. And what I decide goes. So, you’re welcome. Which means we have another shot to start the new year off right.

In 2020 I tried to make it a point to live each day a little better than the last. I failed, a lot, but who didn’t in 2020. And that’s okay. We’re human. We’re living through a pandemic. And life is f’n hard. But with a list of things we want to work on everyday, it’s easy to get right back on track. The saying goes something like fall off the damn horse get back on, right? I think. Someone correct me in the comments if I’m wrong.

Anywho, there were a few things I tried to accomplish each day last year that I want to continue into 2021. There are also a few things I want to start doing this year. So adding those all up, you get 10 things to do to start the new year off right. If they are going to help me be a better person, maybe they’ll help you, too.

Get a planner. This one has to be number one because it will help you plan out each day. I’ve always been a huge planner person, sometimes switching planners multiple times throughout the year because I get bored of the one I’ve been using. Currently, I’m using an Erin Condren planner and even though it goes all through 2021, I’ve been using it since the middle of 2020 so I might change it soon. But get a freaking planner, it’ll cure all your problems. And if it doesn’t, don’t tell anyone I said that.

Get a new mindset. We all had a shitty 2020 in one way or another. It definitely affected our mindsets, that’s for sure. So for 2021, it’s time we get a new one. We’re going to start off each day with a positive mindset. We are not going into the day thinking we hate work or we don’t want to run those errands. We’re going to go into the day thinking we are blessed to have a job or that we’re thankful to have the ability to run all those errands.

Make your bed every day. This is something I started doing in March last year. Mainly because I am on a Zoom meeting for work every single morning and I don’t want them seeing an unmade bed. But it has helped in so many ways. It helps start my day off with a clean slate. It’s like starting each day tidy. Even if my room is the exact opposite.

More on the above, do at least one other “chore” every day. Whether it be loading the dishwasher, or putting the dishes away, or vacuuming. Just do at least one thing to make your space a little more tidy. Having a clean space to look at helps with the new mindset I talked about.

Get outside. It’s cold af right now but I still make it a point to get outside for at least 20-30 minutes every single day. Having Annie helps a lot because she loves being outside and she really loves the cold. But getting outside, getting some sun, and just being in the fresh air every day is so, so good for your mental and physical health.

While you’re outside, exercise. Or try to move at least 30 minutes a day in another way. Take a walk, do some yoga, lift weights, or whatever your heart desires. Just move. It’s so important for your mental, physical, and heart health. Remember, we have a new mindset in 2021 and we are working on improving ourselves every day!

Change out just one meal to be a little healthier. I get it, take out in 2020 was all the rage. It was easy and convenient. I’m not saying stop getting take out all together. We still need to support the restaurants in our areas. But try to make just one meal a day a healthy one. These small changes will all add up. You might even find yourself going for the healthier options during other meals, too!

Write down 1 thing a day that you are thankful for. I wrote about how to do that in my last post. But taking just a second at the end of your day to think of at least one good thing that happened with help with our new mindsets. It will help us with those positive attitudes and it will help us see that we might have bad moments or bad days, but we certainly do not have a bad life.

Get a good skin care routine. I use to be the girl who just washed her face in the morning and called it a day. I even *gasp* used to sleep in my makeup. However, I have picked up a better skin care routine throughout the years. I’m not saying it’s a great routine and I can guarantee I could learn more about the things I’m using and the way I’m using them. I’m sure I can add more to my routine. But after changing my skin care routine at the beginning of 2020, the girl who does my makeup for the styled shoots I’ve been in even commented on how good my skin was doing. It was a proud moment in my life. I’m not a skin care expert so I won’t tell you what to do because everyone’s skin is different. But I will say, moisturize!

Drink your greens. I personally use the Alani Nu greens but there are so many out there you can pick from. Find some that work for you and stick to them. Every single morning. Your gut will thank you.

And there you have it friends. 10 things we are going to do to start the new year off right. And to continue living our best lives throughout 2021. Do you have something you are doing to be a better person every day? Drop it in the comments below so we can all see and maybe pick up even more good habits for our year!
