Happy #NationalRelaxationDay! I think we should all be celebrating. Which is why I’ve put together a list of tips on how to unwind and relax. Because I know some of you out there don’t even know HOW to do that, take it from the master of relaxing, it’s the best. I’m a pro at napping and just chilling. It should be the top skill on my resume.
- Keep work at work, if you can. I went through this a couple years ago. I would work my full day at work, and then come home and work a few hours at home. Every.Single.Day. It was hell. I cried. A lot. So if it’s at all possible, keep work and home separate.
- Change into comfy clothes when you get home. It’s literally what I do as soon as I walk through my door. Those shorts and a t-shirt get thrown on ASAP.
- Meditate. I still haven’t gotten into this. And it’s the middle of August and I said I wanted to try it this month. But I’ve heard good things about this helping to relax others.
- Get a massage. From your s.o. or from a professional. Or have your kids walk on your back. I don’t know, that last one doesn’t sound too relaxing. But the first two do!
- Read a good book. Get lost in that book. Tune out the real world. It’s a good time.
- Apply a face mask. Or a foot mask. Or a hand mask. Or a lip mask. Or a hair mask. Or hell, all of the above at the same time. Get yo mask on!
- Write in a journal. For some people, writing can be very therapeutic. It’s one of the many reasons I do it. Now, you don’t have to go and put it online for the world to see like I do. But just writing your thoughts down on paper can really relax you!
- Binge watch something funny. My suggestions? The Office, Arrested Development, Jane the Virgin, Friends, The Good Place, or Grace & Frankie.
- Eat your favorite dessert. It’ll help in the moment. Maybe not in the long run, but hey, we all deserve some ice cream sometimes!
- Go for a run. If you’re one of those crazies who become more relaxed while running, go do it! I am not one of those people.
- Order takeout. Nothing is more relaxing than NOT having to cook for yourself. Make someone else do it.
- Watch the sunset. Nothing is more peaceful than watching a beautiful sunset. And that’s a fact.
