13 days in to 2018 and I’ve failed at all of my resolutions. This is the first time I’m blogging, I’ve been to the gym a total of 3 1/2 times, and I’ve eaten healthy 0 times. So that’s super cool.
However, I feel like I should be looking at those as wins. Okay, probably not the eating healthy 0 times so far because let’s be real, a healthy lifestyle is super important to a lot of things, like a good immune system, which I’m lacking. But I digress. Anyway, I should be looking at the other two as wins.
For one, I’m blogging. Yes, it took me 13 days to do it, but I’m doing it. That’s 13 days shorter than it was in between the last blog I made and this one. It’s not even two weeks (barely, I know) and it’s not a month in between posts. So I’ll chalk that up to a win.
I’ve gone to the gym 3 1/2 times. That’s 3 1/2 more times than I think I went the entire month of December. And we’re only halfway through January. So I would consider that a win, too. And if you’re wondering where I’m getting the 1/2 it’s because my friend has been home and we went and pretty much sat around and talked one day. Ah well, I still did a little bit so I’ll consider it a half :).
So instead of looking at not accomplishing any of your resolutions yet, why don’t you give yourself a pat on the back for what you HAVE done. Was your resolution to cut out soda and you’ve only had 5 days without it? That’s 5 more days than you did have. So go you! Was your resolution to be more organized and you’ve only made a list a few different times? Hey, progress is still progress!
They say it takes 21 days to form a habit. That doesn’t seem like a lot until you’re actually thinking about it and trying to do it. But baby steps are still steps in the right direction. So maybe try what I’m going to do and make a check list somewhere you can see it. Mine is on my big, dry-erase calendar. There’s a spot for notes on it so I’ve made a check list. Every time I go to the gym, I put a check mark on there. Now, there might only be 3 1/2 check marks on there, but they’re still on there. And to me that’s better than 0 being on there, like the eating healthy one. It also serves as a reminder to get my butt up and go to the gym. 3 1/2 check marks does kind of look a little pathetic 13 days in to the new year, so seeing that also motivates me to go. It’s like an itch I’m trying to scratch. Or a check mark I’m trying to add. So I challenge you, whoever you are, to make a checklist and try that if you’re having a hard time sticking to your resolutions! Let me know in the comments below if you’re doing that. Or if you have another way you’re making sure you’re sticking to your resolutions this year. We might all be able to help each other out by telling each other the different things we’re doing!
